ATB co-owner sponsors the Zhytomyr Polytechnic Science Park. We learned which projects are already bringing in income for the park

LLC "Science Park "Zhytomyr Polytechnic" was officially registered on August 23, 2023. Operationally, the park is developing at the expense of its own revenues: as of December 2024, its income reached UAH 3 million. This year, an increase in income by 50% is expected. The park invests all the money earned in the development of new projects.

The Science Park received significant support from the investment company BGV Group Management of Gennady Butkevych, which provided equipment for laboratories worth over 100,000 euros.

Currently, the park team is creating projects for universities, business, and sports, including an online management platform for universities, an interactive sports simulator, application development, 3D printer production, and more.

The Science Park of Zhytomyr Polytechnic operates in three directions:

  • IT (both products and services);
  • design, modeling and pilot production services;
  • additive technologies.

Specialized laboratories have been formed in accordance with these areas, which are mainly financed from the university's own funds. The park is an integral part of the university, so scientists and postgraduate students of the university can use all its equipment free of charge.

Team

The team includes CEO Mykhailo Psyuk, Project Manager Ivan Novosyolov, and engineers from the relevant areas of the park's activities.

Currently, the largest part of the team is made up of developers who provide support and development of the park's flagship product, the online management platform for universities "Digital University". The chief architect of the product and head of this direction is Andriy Morozov, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work of the University.

In general, the park involves university scientists in all areas of activity. For example, the direction of 3D printing, development of 3D printing equipment, and filament production is headed by young graduate student Yaroslav Kozyar. The direction of precision metalworking is also headed by graduate student Yuriy Koval.

They, in turn, then form appropriate teams, mostly of students and young scientists. Usually, it is from 15 to 20 people, depending on the workload of the projects.

"A separate project team works on each project, which is formed taking into account the specifics of the project. This is due to both our rather broad spectrum of activities, for a young company, and the need to provide clients with in-depth expertise, which is impossible without stable, focused teams," explains Mykhailo Psyuk.

Projects

The online university management platform "Digital University" is a project that is already generating income

"Digital University" is the result of the work of the university's IT team; the first modules of the system were introduced to the university more than 5 years ago.

“With the logical development of the system within the university, a decision was made to develop such a system into a separate commercial product, which has been implemented in practice since the founding of the science park,” notes Mykhailo Psyuk.

Currently, in addition to Zhytomyr Polytechnic University, the platform is used by the Kyiv Aviation Institute (formerly NAU) and the Kyiv National University of Civil Engineering and Architecture.

The cost of a Digital University license ranges from UAH 1.3 million to UAH 2 million per year. The final cost depends on the number of students in the institution and may also vary depending on additional conditions or wishes of the university.

The Digital University team ensures the process of implementing the system in higher education institutions and adapting the software to the conditions and specifics of each university, as well as information and technical support of the system.

"This direction is already generating income for the science park. The process of connecting new universities is currently underway," says the CEO of the Science Park.

Interactive football simulator for training athletes as an example of cases of cooperation with business

In 2024, at the request of LLC "Football Club "Polissya", the Science Park team designed and manufactured an interactive football simulator "Gate", which was installed at the club's training base. It took 3 months to develop. The simulator's task is to practice athletes' accuracy and reaction.

“Another example of cooperation with business is our IT services direction. We are currently making a lot of efforts to develop our outsourcing team, which provides services for web application development and business process automation. Among our clients are small and medium-sized businesses from Ukraine and Europe,” adds Mykhailo Psyuk.

Startup support

"The Science Park is a logical part of the university's innovation ecosystem, which we consciously built so that our scientists could actually go from idea to startup. Our task, after a cycle of hackathons, competitions, or an acceleration program, is to offer the best projects our support. Financial, organizational, and IP support - so that teams can take their first steps as part of the science park. And then they can develop their business independently, receiving consultations and other support from us," explains the CEO of the Science Park. "The Science Park has ongoing programs to support promising projects. More mature ideas in our startup development system enter the acceleration program."

The first acceleration program for hardware startups, BGV HARDWARE ACCELERATOR, was held in 2024. Among 35 applications, 6 finalists were selected, including:

  • SentryRF — broadband antenna for radio monitoring SR-3000;
  • Mechanical Gardener — tracked robotic platform RT-1-1;
  • ground robotic complex "Taurus 1";
  • individual sports and rehabilitation simulators SkillsUP;
  • affordable and mobile solutions for PoliMill CNC machining;
  • industrial 3D printers Mechlab 3D.

MechLab 3D startup, which went from a student idea to the stage of launching its own production

The founders of the startup MechLab 3D were graduate students of Zhytomyr Polytechnic University Yaroslav Kozyar and Ivan Novoselov. In 2016, they became interested in 3D printers and began assembling their first devices, which eventually grew into a university startup.

The MechLab 3D startup officially entered the market in September 2023, later becoming part of the Science Park. Since its launch, the startup has sold devices worth UAH 300,000 and received a grant of up to EUR 3,000 to purchase equipment to create an MVP of a new model — a six-head 3D printer “3D Manufacturer”.

Today, MechLab 3D is not only about 3D printers, but also industrial devices, plastic recycling plants, and 3D printing filament production.

Investments

The science park is receiving significant support from the chairman of the university’s Supervisory Board, Gennady Butkevych. His investment company BGV has provided equipment for laboratories in the design, modeling and experimental manufacturing services and additive technologies, with support totaling €111,700.

Among the equipment provided by BGV: 3D scanner EINSCAN PRO HD, compressor Metabo Mega 580-200 D, sheet bending machine FDB Maschinen ESF 1260-B and band saw BAMATO BMS 150-K 400 50.

The park also received a HAAS vertical machining center worth 98,000 euros.

"This is very important for the university, because it is thanks to this equipment that our postgraduate students in the relevant specialties were able to conduct their research at the university, rather than traveling to partner universities in Germany or other countries, as was the case before," says Mykhailo Psyuk.

Plans

In 2025, the Zhytomyr Polytechnic Science Park will focus on the development of flagship products and key areas, as well as infrastructure for deeper applied research and the launch of new R&D areas.

In addition, the park plans to create an ecological laboratory and significantly strengthen the electronics sector. They will also continue to support student initiatives through hackathons, technical idea competitions, and the second wave of the BGV Hardware Accelerator program.

"In the long term, we see the science park as part of Science City , a special regime for innovation in Ukraine. This will allow us not only to accelerate the pace of development of the park, but also to create a real innovation cluster in Zhytomyr, which will attract investors, deep-tech companies, and international partnerships. We want our park to become a center where ideas are transformed into products, technologies, and business solutions that change the economy of the region and the country," shares Mykhailo Psyuk.

We remind you that there are three pilot science parks operating in Ukraine. In addition to Zhytomyr Polytechnic, in January 2025, Kyiv Aviation Institute (KAI) presented the concept of its science park.

Today, the largest Science Park in Ukraine is SID City of the Lviv Polytechnic National University, which turned 5 years old on June 5. We have previously reported on the projects that have been implemented during this time.
