Netflix has pioneered the use of AI for visual effects in its series. The technology has reduced costs and accelerated the scene creation process by 10 times.
The streaming giant's co-chief executive officer, Ted Sarandos, said that AI, which creates videos and images based on clues, was used to create a building collapse scene in the Argentine science fiction series "Eternaut," the BBC writes .
AI helped the film crew complete a scene of a building collapse in Buenos Aires 10 times faster than if they had used traditional special effects tools.
“The cost of that would have been out of reach for a show with that budget,” says Sarandos. “This scene is actually the first AI-generated scene to appear on screen in a Netflix original series or movie, so the creators were thrilled with the result.”
We previously reported that AI startup Respeecher's technologies were used in two Oscar-winning films — "The Brutalist" and "Emilia Perez."
Actors have repeatedly expressed concerns about the use of AI in the film industry.
Actor and comedian Hank Azaria, who has voiced The Simpsons since 1989, expressed concerns that AI would voice the animated series and "steal its likeness or sound."
Robert Downey Jr. also strongly opposes the use of generative artificial intelligence to recreate his likeness.
