New mode for Ukrainian drone Raybird: detects enemy radar from tens of kilometers away
The Ukrainian tactical drone Raybird has received a new function: the Skyeton company has integrated a payload in the form of a radio-electronic reconnaissance system into the device, which allows it to detect signals from enemy electronic warfare, radars, and air defense systems without crossing the front line.
The Ukrainian tactical drone Raybird has received a new function: the Skyeton company has integrated a payload in the form of a radio-electronic reconnaissance system into the device, which allows it to detect signals from enemy electronic warfare, radars, and air defense systems without crossing the front line.
As Skyeton reports on LinkedIn, the drone is capable of operating in passive mode at a distance of up to 70 km from the target. This allows it to determine the coordinates of radio frequency radiation sources without risk to the operator or loss of the drone itself.
Raybird is equipped with a long-lasting power supply, and its compact dimensions and relative cheapness open up new opportunities for reconnaissance even in difficult conditions. The company notes that previously, such capabilities were provided exclusively by large and expensive aircraft, which had significant logistical limitations.
Among the main combat use scenarios are preparation for the destruction of air defense assets (SEAD), electronic environment mapping (EW mapping), as well as the formation of an up-to-date picture of the battlefield.
Skyeton also highlights the potential of the new payload in the civilian sector, including search and rescue operations, maritime surveillance, and border patrol.
The company added that the new solution is the result of collaboration with Quadsat, a manufacturer of radio frequency measurement equipment adapted for drones.
A little more about Skyeton
This is a Ukrainian manufacturer of unmanned aerial vehicles, known for its Raybird tactical UAV series. Since 2022, the company has been actively adapting its developments to the needs of the front, in particular, conducting reconnaissance and helping to detect enemy technical means.
We previously wrote about how Ukrainian Skyeton and British Prevail Partners are creating the first joint British-Ukrainian venture to produce Raybird drones.
