Nvidia’s announcement comes a day after U.S. President Donald Trump and his administration renewed their threat to impose tariffs on semiconductors and other technology products. Trump told reporters in February that the new tariffs, which would be nearly 25% higher and would include semiconductors, would be imposed.
It later became known that the new import duties allegedly did not affect semiconductors, but in fact the «tariff cushion» established for technology companies was more harmful than helpful.
Markets crashed in response to the tariffs, with a number of major tech companies, including Apple, Meta, Amazon and Microsoft, taking losses. It was only after Trump announced a 90-day suspension of tariffs that the shares of the «Magnificent Seven,» which includes Nvidia, rebounded .
Almost a month ago, it became known that Nvidia, together with Elon Musk’s xAI, joined the Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Fund and signed a contract for $30 billion. The ultimate goal of the AI Infrastructure Fund, which was joined by BlackRock, Microsoft, and the MGX investment group from Abu Dhabi, was to raise up to $100 billion for the development of artificial intelligence.
The creation of Stargate, which, according to Trump, will be «the largest AI infrastructure project in history,» became known at the end of January this year.
