The payouts come as Meta has begun its aggressive hiring spree of AI specialists. Its “buy or poach” approach, reportedly led by CEO Mark Zuckerberg , has intensified after the company’s internal AI projects failed. OpenAI’s bonus plan appears designed to stop that.
Details of the offer first emerged when Hyperbolic Labs co-founder Yuchen Jin shared the news on X. According to him, the deal extends even to new employees, instantly making them millionaires, writes Windows Report.
The 1,000 employees are about a third of OpenAI's staff. Bonuses ranging from hundreds of thousands to several million dollars are offered to specialists involved in technical research and engineering.
The size of the bonuses will depend on the performance, seniority and role of each employee. They will have the option of receiving payments in cash or shares, with the rewards accrued quarterly for two years.
