Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo shared possible details about the new device that OpenAI is working on in partnership with Jony Ive on his X social media page. According to him, the device will have a compact size and minimalist look in the style of the iPod Shuffle, Apple’s famous player that did not have a screen, but was distinguished by its simplicity and functionality.
The AI gadget, according to Kuo, will be slightly larger than the AI Pin, an ambitious but failed product from Humane. However, unlike the latter, OpenAI’s new product will be worn around the neck, not on clothing. The device will not have a display, but it will have microphones and cameras for voice interaction and environmental recognition. Users will be able to connect it to smartphones or computers.
OpenAI’s collaboration with Jony Ive was announced last year. Their goal is to create a «radical new interface for interacting with artificial intelligence» that could become an alternative to the usual smartphones. The project is supported by the investment fund Thrive Capital, as well as SoftBank.
The analyst believes that mass production of the device will not begin until 2027. Moreover, the assembly and delivery of the product is planned outside of China to avoid geopolitical risks. The most likely option at this stage is Vietnam.

Interestingly, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, who calls the gadget «the coolest technological device the world has ever seen,» is already testing it out at home. And designer @BenGeskin has already created the first concept renders based on known details — and they really do resemble the aesthetics of the old Apple.
