This was announced by OpenAI Vice President Nick Tarley on the social network X. According to him, the new plan will be the cheapest official subscription to ChatGPT, as the current minimum Plus tariff costs $20 per month.
ChatGPT GO offers enhanced capabilities compared to the free version. Users get 10 times more message limits, image generation, and file uploads. In addition, the memory capacity is doubled, which allows the model to generate more personalized responses and better take into account previous conversations.
OpenAI notes that the Indian launch is a test phase. The expansion of ChatGPT GO to other countries will take place after analyzing user feedback and optimizing the tariff. The company’s help center emphasizes that this is a long-term expansion of the geography of access.
The launch of GO can be seen as the company’s attempt to reach markets with lower purchasing power, where the $20 Plus subscription is not affordable. India was chosen first due to the large number of users, the rapid growth in demand for generative AI, and high competition from local and global players.
OpenAI has previously focused on developing ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and enterprise solutions. The release of a new basic plan could significantly expand the service’s audience and increase competition with similar products from Anthropic and Google.
