A young startup has developed an app for sports and rehabilitation. When does it plan to enter international markets?

A young startup has developed an app for sports and rehabilitation. When does it plan to enter international markets?

Yulia Tkachenko is a student of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, studying economics, but has been fascinated by technology and science for several years. The girl is a resident of Ukrainian Future, a business incubator of the Small Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, and has won many national and international scientific competitions in physics. Yulia developed an application for sports and rehabilitation OUTEX, in which AI independently corrects the execution of exercises. Yulia told dev.ua about how the application works, how the girl created a startup, and whether she plans to become a unicorn.

From pros to average users

Yulia has been immersed in technology and science since the 10th grade, when her school teacher introduced her to this industry. After fellow co-founders Ernest Laptev and Gennady Chaly had an idea for a startup, the girl joined the idea a little later and helped transform it. Initially, the startupers wanted to create sports bracelets for professional athletes. But later they focused on creating an application for sports that anyone could use. When the project was already at the level of an idea with an application, Yulia joined and suggested adding rehabilitation to the application.

«We have already understood that the situation in the modern world is incredibly dynamic and never stands still. Our motivation is to give people the opportunity to monitor their health no matter what,» the startuper notes.

According to Yulia, the OUTEX application will not slow people down, but will help them move through the world in any direction.

What is Outex?

The OUTEX application is aimed at helping with sports and rehabilitation. Artificial intelligence built into the program adjusts the execution of exercises so that the user can exercise anywhere and anytime and not worry about injuries. The name itself reflects the essence of the application and consists of two words: out exercising, that is, exercising outside the usual, outside the gym, home, own yard.

The startup’s ideal user is someone who wants to maintain their health, but is also very active and flexible, and cannot stay in one place for long.

What has already been done?

During the development of the project, about two years ago, the startups managed to attract about $12,000 through direct and indirect investments. Most of this is grant money that was allocated to young startups from various organizations, including the grant won at the WYEC competition.

Currently, the OUTEX team, together with Yulia, is conducting alpha testing of the application, which already has a design, ready-made artificial intelligence, and a number of basic exercises. Currently, these are the first technology tests, and closer to the middle or end of 2025, the startups are already preparing for a full release on IOS and Android.

About the team and help

6 people are currently actively working on the project, including IT specialists, SMM, fundraisers, and business planning specialists. Ernest Laptev, the project’s CTO, is responsible for the technical part and the implementation of artificial intelligence. Gennady Chaly, another co-founder, is working on the development of OUTEX on the European market. They also developed the basic prototype.

The greatest need now is for IT specialists to accelerate the development of the application. In addition, the startups have partner trainers who help with the development of exercises, and are also participants in the Ukrainian Future Business Incubator, which advises developers on business planning and fundraising issues.

The startup won the national competition for innovative business projects National Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge 2024 (NYEC), organized and held by the business incubator. It also reached the finals of the international competition for youth entrepreneurship World Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge 2024 (WYEC), organized by the global network for the development of entrepreneurship education Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE).

About plans

The startups plan to enter not only the Ukrainian market, but also the markets of the European Union, the USA, and Canada. The team has already visited many countries with their product and had the opportunity to test hypotheses.

Among the first steps that the startups are aiming for is to introduce sports exercises, and in the future they plan to introduce rehabilitation exercises.

«It is incredibly important for us to help injured soldiers rehabilitate after minor injuries,» notes Yulia.
