«Perplexity is moving from a simple answering machine to an action machine,» wrote TechCrunch, citing Aravind Srinivas, co-founder and CEO of Perplexity, who made the announcement at the MWC exhibition in Barcelona.
In addition to announcing the launch of a new AI phone, Perplexity’s CEO announced the development of an AI assistant app, which he calls «Magenta AI.»
Claudia Nemat, a member of the Deutsche Telekom board of directors who oversees the technology and innovation sector in telecommunications, said that Magenta AI, the app-based version of DT’s artificial intelligence assistant, will be available to those who want to install it on their own Android or iOS devices — provided you are already one of DT’s 300 million customers.
The head of the German telecom holding also said that DT is becoming an artificial intelligence company. But she added that they are creating AI agents, not basic large language models. She also noted that the phone will have artificial intelligence created by Perplexity, «so you can fully experience Monty,» she added: «AI on the lock screen.»
A Deutsche Telekom representative told TechCrunch that the device is planned to be introduced in the second half of this year. At that time, DT plans to provide details about the hardware, in particular, the device’s specifications, as well as who creates it and what operating system it will run on. The gadget should go on sale in 2026 for a price of less than $1,000. It will be seen first in the European market.
