Initially, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski reacted to Musk’s statement, stating that Starlink for Ukraine is paid for by the Polish Ministry of Digitalization, and it costs almost $50 million per year.

«If SpaceX turns out to be an unreliable supplier, we will be forced to look for other suppliers,» he stressed.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, in response to the Pole’s statement, said that «no one threatened to disconnect Ukraine» from the Starlink satellite network, which helps the Ukrainian military fight against Russian occupiers.

«And say thank you, because without Starlink, Ukraine would have lost this war a long time ago and the Russians would now be on the border with Poland,» Rubio responded to the publication of the Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Sikorsky did not claim that SpaceX plans to disconnect Ukraine from Starlink, but only noted that the company may prove to be an unreliable supplier after Musk’s claims that the entire front in Ukraine would collapse «if I turn off» Starlink.

«Thank you, Marko, for confirming that Ukraine’s brave soldiers can count on a vital internet service provided jointly by the United States and Poland. Together, Europe and the United States can help Ukraine achieve a just peace,» Sikorsky wrote under Rubio’s post.

Musk also did not hesitate and responded to Sikorsky, calling him a «little man.»

As a reminder, in late February, Reuters reported that the US was threatening to shut down Starlink if Kyiv did not sign a minerals deal. This is critical, as Ukraine has been using Starlink for communications on the front lines and at infrastructure facilities since the start of the full-scale invasion.
