The German company Quantum Systems has transferred to Ukraine a new model of the Vector AI drone with artificial intelligence and the Polish WASP acoustic system, capable of detecting enemy artillery shots at a distance of up to 15 km.
The German company Quantum Systems has transferred to Ukraine a new model of the Vector AI drone with artificial intelligence and the Polish WASP acoustic system, capable of detecting enemy artillery shots at a distance of up to 15 km.
As Florian Seibel, co-founder and CEO of Quantum Systems, reported on LinkedIn, Ukraine has become the first user of the new Vector AI drone equipped with the WASP acoustic sensor, developed by the subsidiary Weles Acoustics. This sensor is able to determine the direction and distance to artillery shots, and the built-in artificial intelligence ensures fast data processing.
According to Seibel, the new complex allows for reconnaissance and recording artillery fire up to 15 km and small arms fire up to 2.5 km, providing up to four hours of flight. The sensor weighs about 150 g, which does not affect the maneuverability of the device.
Director of the Ukrainian office of Quantum Systems, Oleksandr Berezhny, noted that these systems are currently being tested at training grounds and during combat missions, during which the software is being improved. The purpose of the tests is to demonstrate additional capabilities of the technology to the command and potentially increase orders.
In addition to Vector AI, WASP acoustic stations are already integrated into another model of the company — Twister. In the future, the manufacturer plans to support this equipment for all its drones.
Quantum Systems has been actively cooperating with Ukraine since the first months of the full-scale Russian invasion, supplying reconnaissance UAVs and technological solutions. According to specialized media, the company is working on automating the process of pointing a drone camera at a source of fire immediately after it is detected. The Ukrainian military has already accumulated significant experience in using UAVs in conditions of high density of artillery shelling, and the introduction of such systems can significantly increase the effectiveness of counter-battery combat.
