Quantum Systems has branched out into ground platforms and has shown its first MANDRILL UAV, which can operate as a reconnaissance vehicle, a medical evacuation platform, or a carrier for deploying drones.
According to Military, MANDRILL is built on a modular principle and designed for defense and emergency response tasks. The company has integrated it into its own ecosystem, which already includes unmanned aerial platforms, meaning the new UAV is immediately considered as part of multi-domain operations, rather than a separate vehicle.
MANDRILL is focused on speed and mobility. According to the company, the platform can reach speeds of up to 100 km/h and has a range of up to 200 km on electric power, while maintaining low visual and acoustic visibility. Autonomous operation day and night, with and without GPS, is also claimed, which is important for conditions where satellite navigation is unstable or unavailable.
Quantum Systems clarified that the maximum payload of the NRK is 750 kg. This is the first vehicle in a new family of ground systems, in which the company plans to release several more platforms of different sizes. Initially, the developer chose the wheeled version, because it was optimized primarily for reconnaissance missions, where range and fast movement are critical. At the same time, in the future the company promises tracked modifications for other application scenarios. Combat modules for MANDRILL can be integrated separately, depending on the end user’s request.
Quantum Systems has been working with Ukraine in the defense segment for a long time, has a production presence in Ukraine and is developing cooperation with Ukrainian companies. In particular, in 2025 the company deepened its partnership with Frontline Robotics, and at the end of the year the parties announced joint Ukrainian-German production of drones in Europe. Therefore, the launch of its own MANDRILL NRC looks not just as the emergence of a new Quantum Systems product, but as an expansion of the ecosystem, which is already connected to the Ukrainian market and the needs of the army.
