Rakuten Viber has introduced built-in AI assistants in the form of separate chats collected in a single folder. The company positions the new feature as a way to solve common household and work queries faster without switching between applications.
According to a press release from Rakuten Viber, a special folder with five thematic assistants will appear in the chat list. These include a universal guide for finding information and explaining complex topics, a companion for tips and ideas, a «cook» for menus and recipes, a «coach» for supporting emotional state and self-reflection, and an «editor» for paraphrasing and improving the text of messages. The assistants work like regular dialogues in the messenger and offer tips for typical situations.
The company specifies that user requests are sent to OpenAI for processing, but this data is not used to train artificial intelligence models. The function is available on iOS, Android and in the desktop version of Viber. Conversations started on a smartphone are synchronized with a computer so that the user can continue the dialogue on another device.
According to Rakuten Viber, the assistant folder is already appearing in mobile apps, and in Ukraine the feature is available to all users with Viber version 26.6 and above. The company also calls the launch part of a long-term investment in AI features aimed at simplifying communication and saving time.
Rakuten Viber links the development of AI capabilities to the overall Rakuten Group Triple 20 initiative. Its goal is to use AI to increase the efficiency of marketing, operational processes and customer service by 20%.
Previously, dev.ua wrote about how Rakuten Viber is launching a marketplace right in the app. In the «Marketplace» tab in the mobile version of Viber, users will be able to find and connect with local businesses: beauty salons, medical services, restaurants, shops and many other services and businesses in their area.
