Previously, Game Designer at Podoba Interactive Ivan Turmenko told the Gamedev DOU forum thatBack to Hearth was originally conceived as a cozy walking simulator where the player repairs and cleans houses, examines the household items of former residents, and learns their stories through personal belongings and cut scenes.
«As a result, we did everything as we had planned. Except for the characteristic 'cozy',» Turmenko noted.
In Back to Hearth, players must restore five houses—sometimes with a hammer, sometimes with a broom, and sometimes with a screwdriver—before the residents return to tell their stories.
«This game is not just about cleaning houses, but about exploring the lives and stories of the villagers who once lived here. Each house holds memories, personal belongings, amulets, and other details that will allow you to learn more about the residents,» the authors note.
According to them, Back to Hearth offers casual meditative gameplay in a Ukrainian village setting. The game’s graphics are stylized for projects from the 2000s.
In the Ukrainian region of Steam , Back to Hearth costs 140 UAH (111 with a discount). The game currently has 12 favorable reviews.
