According to Sergey «Flash» Beskrestny, the Defense Minister’s advisor on technological areas, this is the first confirmed episode when the Gerbera was used not as a separate drone, but as an FPV carrier. The FPV drone itself was not found after this incident, so it is currently impossible to establish its specific purpose. It could perform both strike and reconnaissance missions.
The absence of the FPV itself makes it difficult to assess the application scenario, but the appearance of a carrier opens up new possibilities for the enemy. In particular, it allows launching the FPV closer to the target, changing starting positions and potentially reducing the effectiveness of detection and electronic warfare. In such a scheme, the first device can distract or play a supporting role, while the second drone appears already in the mission area.
Serhiy Beskrestny noted that there is currently no evidence of the systematic use of such tactics. At the same time, the very fact of its recording indicates the continuation of experiments with the combined use of drones, and therefore requires attention from specialists involved in countering UAVs.
During a full-scale war, the enemy regularly tests new schemes for using drones, combining different types of devices within one episode. Previously, attempts to bypass air defense and electronic warfare by masking, changing altitudes, routes and roles of drones have been recorded. The discovery of the Gerbera as a carrier of FPV fits into this logic of finding more effective tactical solutions.
