GR-3 is a vision-speech-action model that allows robots to carry out natural language instructions and general tasks with unfamiliar objects, in new environments, or with abstract concepts related to size and space, writes the South China Morning Post.
The model was integrated into the ByteMini two-armed mobile robot, which is in the laboratory development stage. With the help of the GR-3, the robot was able to hang a shirt on a hanger, pick up various objects and place them in the specified places.
The system could identify an object not only by name, but also by size, for example, "bigger plate," or by spatial indicators, for example, "on the left."
The robot could also autonomously complete the entire task of “clearing the dinner table” with a single prompt.

To train the model, ByteDance used a comprehensive approach that involved joint training with a huge amount of visual-speech data, additional tuning using human motion data collected through virtual reality devices, and training through simulation based on robot trajectory data.
“We hope that GR-3 can be a step towards creating universal robots capable of helping people in everyday life,” the company noted.
We previously reported that the Chinese company UBTech Robotics introduced the world's first humanoid robot that replaces its own batteries .
