Amazon will soon begin testing humanoid courier robots that will deliver packages to your door

This is reported by The Verge with reference to The Information. It is noted that the software is almost ready to begin real tests at the new facility.

Amazon is said to have nearly completed an indoor «humanoid park» at one of its San Francisco offices, about the size of a coffee shop. The location will house a single Rivian delivery van for training purposes, and Amazon wants the humanoid robots to «get into the back of Amazon Rivian electric delivery vans and get out to deliver packages.»

Earlier it was reported that Amazon has launched a new artificial intelligence team that will help develop technologies that will power the robots «that work in Amazon’s distribution and logistics centers.» In a statement, Amazon says that «instead of rigid specialized robots, we are creating systems that can hear, understand and execute commands in natural language, transforming warehouse robots into flexible, multi-talented assistants.»

Amazon already uses a variety of autonomous robots in its warehouse operations, such as Agility Robotics’ Digit, which was initially proposed for tasks like sitting in a van and delivering packages, as well as other logistics purposes. Amazon currently employs thousands of people to deliver packages, but the company is clearly aiming to fully automate the process.
