Why smart glasses for a programmer. Backend-Frontend developer explained why he chose VITURE and what he was not satisfied with Meta and Xreal

What did you want to do?

Oleksandr said that the main function, for the sake of which he actually decided to choose smart glasses, is the replacement of monitors.

«First of all, I was looking for an opportunity to work with a PC. I was especially attracted to the idea of ​​going somewhere to a festival and being able to work comfortably with several screens, because additional screens help a lot in programming,» the developer said.

To use this function, you need to install a special program on your computer that will allow you to use up to three monitors in virtual glasses.

Torment of choice and alternative

The developer chose between XREAL Air 2 Ultra AR glasses, VITURE Pro XR Glasses and Meta Quest 3 VR glasses.

Meta was the first to be rejected, primarily because of its weight (450 g), because it can be uncomfortable to work for a long time. In addition, the developer in these developer glasses was not satisfied with the price.

«It’s a different class and type of device,» he sums up.

Xreal, according to Alexander, is even more expensive than Meta. In addition, the glasses do not have diopter adjustment, which is important for the developer. And in Xreal, you need to use an additional installation for optical lenses. In addition, there are no applications for Windows on the site yet. Among the advantages that Alexander found, the three-step dimming control. «However, I personally don’t understand why,» he adds.

In VITURE Pro XR Glasses, Oleksandr saw:

• built-in ability to stabilize diopters,
• a program for virtual desktops for Windows, available on the official website.

These are the options that are important to the developer. In addition, according to him, the glasses have an additional function of disconnection when the head tilts down. «It’s very convenient when working with a PC to look at the keyboard,» adds Oleksandr.

The developer emphasized that he did not consider younger versions of the glasses, because there is no dimming function.

For himself, Oleksandr ordered VITURE Pro XR Glasses and MSA Sordin Supreme Pro-X Neckband active headphones for them. Neckband was needed because the developer’s phone does not support video output via USB Type C. For him, the «neckband» form factor turned out to be more convenient to use than actually carrying a second phone.

Regarding prices

VITURE Pro XR Glasses cost Oleksandr $400. «I was waiting for the sale on Alixpress, which was supposed to be on November 11, but the price was lowered even earlier and then it was not changed,» he said. Delivery took about 10 days.

The developer had to pay another $200 for the Neckband headset.

«Found a „collar“ on OLX, surprisingly, even cheaper than on Alixpress,» the developer added.

According to him, in the end, the entire set of gadgets cost Alexander the same amount as the Xreal Ultra glasses alone.

Real application

The developer failed to replace the monitors with smart glasses. However, he is currently watching a video on the big screen.

«The same „Avatar“ or „Avengers“ look great in 3D. I still want to try writing notes and playing the piano. Can you fold the screen into a corner and watch a YouTube video and do your own thing,» he adds.

Oleksandr noted that he still lacks the clarity of the picture when he turns his head. However, the developer notes that the text is clearly visible. «But it could be that I just have a weak graphics card, or rather a general processor instead,» he adds.

In addition, according to Oleksandr, he lacks the ability to rely on side vision. «Because monitors are usually visible with side vision,» he explains.

However, according to him, on the road, smart glasses can be a help, especially if you know how to type blindly.
