Now the job market for programmers is like a black hole in which you can lose not only time, but also hopes. Every second person dreams of becoming a developer, but not everyone understands what actually awaits them on this «path». Therefore, if you think that you just sat down on Python and that’s it — work and fix bugs, here are a few reasons why you should think again before plunging into this «fairy tale».
Online universities, courses and other marketing geniuses stamp Junes like pasta from a factory, and the market simply does not take them. You think that you are about to become a senior, but in fact, with your diploma, you will be hired only for the position of «coffee tester on the server». Real vacancies for experienced specialists, but for juniors there is only one offer: «The task for you: correct an error on the website, we will give everything, but for now for 500 UAH.» Good luck
If your experience in IT is not enough even for two hands, forget about companies that want to see the result. You can know all the programming languages, but your resume will not impress anyone until you have experience with real projects. Therefore, you will have to start with a simple: «Hello, World!», then «Hello, bugs!», and at the end — «Goodbye, hope for a job at Google!».
Now every second «senior» considers himself a «junior» because it is fashionable. As a result, there are so many junior seniors on the market that there are simply not enough vacancies. You open vacancies, but they are still looking for «Junior + 5 years of experience» This is not a metaphor, this is life: the competition is so high that even Picasso in his younger years could not draw enough projects for such demands.
And here is the real problem for you — competition with conditional «Vasyas», who will do your work for half of your salary, just to get them into the company. And there will be no question that you deserve more — Vasya is ready to work for 50 bucks, and your rate for «serious» work for Jun will be… well, probably 49. Because the company chooses not the one who is better, but the one, who is ready to accept less (not always).
Courses that promise a «quick start» actually just create an endless stream of people who have no idea about the real state of affairs. Did you graduate from an online university? Congratulations! Now you are part of a huge army of Junes, which no one hires, because there are simply no vacancies for everyone. And although your diploma looks beautiful, it has the same effect as a certificate of participation in a marathon — it does not give the right to real achievements.
So, if you decide to become a programmer, keep your eyes open, because this path not only requires strength, but also mercilessly destroys illusions. Success depends not only on how many languages you know, but also on how many cups of coffee you can drink during your internship while working for pennies.
