"A couple more weeks and I'll starve to death. I'm ready to work for $1,000, but work." Senior Software Engineer shared his crisis situation in finding a job. What IT professionals advise him

«I’m in a panic because I don’t know what to do. Yes, I know, they say you can’t write like that, but I’ve tried everything, and for some reason I can’t find a job. This wouldn’t be a problem if I didn’t run out of money. That is, a couple more weeks and I’ll die of hunger. I need help, I’m ready to work for $1,000, but work,» the IT guy wrote on his LinkedIn page.

In the comments, he added that after interviews he usually receives positive feedback, but not an offer, and the vacancies posted on traditional job search sites are «dead.»

«I just can’t understand what’s wrong. Most people answer — you’re 'great', but we found a better one, and then there are dead vacancies on DOU, work.ua or Djinni, where you respond, and then they don’t answer you,» Chumak complains.

According to him, destroying salary expectations doesn’t help either.

«I think, okay, maybe the salary is too high, I start lowering it, but it doesn’t make any difference. I think, okay, maybe I’ll switch to React or back to PHP in June — and there are zero vacancies! What’s going on?» asks the IT worker rhetorically.

According to Mykhailo Chumak, he had 6 or 7 interviews with HR, and 2 technical ones, one of which was even positive, but «the customer closed the recruitment.»

Although the IT worker hasn’t actually been looking for a job for very long, he states that he has no money to pay for a rented apartment, but he also has no one to borrow from.

What advice do others have and are they willing to lend a helping hand?

In the comments to this post, several recruiters offered the IT professional their vacancies, and others offered advice on the correct self-presentation strategy.

There was also some advice on how to fill out a good LinkedIn profile and apply to more frameworks. There was also advice on changing your job a bit while you’re looking for a job.

«You can always become a teacher at courses — try that direction. Especially since you have experience in development. There won’t be mountains of gold there, but there will be enough bread and butter to make it to a normal project with a normal salary,» advises Technical Lead Alex Palamarchuk.

Senior NodeJS Developer Khrystyna Odukha recommended removing the «green box» for job searches on LinkedIn, although some other contributors disagreed with her.

Senior Software Engineer Dim Klaskovsky still believes that there is work on the market, but it is worth trying to look for it «proactively.»

«There are more than enough ideas and inspiration on the Internet on how to do this. In addition, spend 1-2 weeks on a high-quality „refresher“ of theory and practice: architecture, patterns, best practices, trade-offs; be ready to explain why and what technical decisions were made; how you would design and implement X. A skilled interviewer will immediately notice whether you are just kidding or if you really understand it… Look back on your experience of failures, try to draw conclusions and adjustments, and try again,» he expressed his position.
