The launch was reported by 24 Channel with reference to the official Casio website. Moflin is positioned as an «emotional companion» capable of learning from everyday scenarios and gradually adapting its behavior to the owner.
The key idea is the unique «personality» of the gadget. For the first ~50 days, Moflin actively «absorbs» interactions, builds patterns of trust and reactions, and then reacts not in a stereotyped way, but depending on the accumulated experience. According to Casio, 4+ million emotional variations are possible — from quiet squeaks to expressive intonations, changes in «mood», etc.
Moflin recognizes voices, distinguishes touches, reacts to the presence of different people in the house and learns to «read» the owner’s usual rituals — from the morning alarm clock to the evening watching of the series. The main task is to create the effect of live communication without complex initial setup.
Emotions are controlled and monitored through the MofLife app. The user sees the pet’s current «state» and interaction history, and receives tips on «raising». A docking station-"bed» is included, and a full charging cycle provides up to 5 hours of battery life.
Casio focuses on mental well-being: Moflin should relieve stress, provide a sense of care and routine care without the noise, dirt or allergens of real animals. Unlike conventional electronic toys, here the behavior is not reduced to a few scenarios and the AI constantly adapts to the owner.
Initial sales will start on Casio’s website in the US and UK, with geographic expansion possible. The company did not specify when the device will appear in other markets or at local retailers.
The lifespan of such a device is an open question, as the manufacturer has not yet explained whether it will be possible to transfer the Moflin’s acquired «personality» to a new device in the event of a breakdown or upgrade. For a product that relies on a long-term relationship with the user, this is critical.
The demand for companion robots is growing, but Casio’s approach is a simple, everyday form. Real-world usage scenarios will decide how quickly Moflin learns, how «lively» the interaction feels, and whether it justifies the $429 price tag.
