Snapchat has added a new feature called Home Safe, which allows users to send a signal with a single tap to notify them that they have returned home safely. Only contacts who have previously enabled location sharing on Snap Map will receive notifications.
Snapchat has added a new feature called Home Safe, which allows users to send a signal with a single tap to notify them that they have returned home safely. Only contacts who have previously enabled location sharing on Snap Map will receive notifications.
This is reported by Engadget, specifying that the new option is not permanent, the notification is sent once and automatically turns off after that. To use the feature, you must first set your home address via Bitmoji on Snap Map. Then, in a chat with a friend, just click on the map icon and select Home Safe to have them receive the notification.
This tool is primarily intended for young people who are used to checking if everyone in the company has gotten home, or for those who want to calmly inform their parents or a friend about their return after a date or party. The company emphasizes that this is only a one-time confirmation, without constant tracking.
Home Safe expands on a number of location-related features that Snapchat has been developing since 2022. At that time, the app added the ability to share your current location in real time. And in 2023, the company introduced the Family Center parental monitoring system, which allows you to receive notifications when a teenager leaves school or home.
Despite criticism for its weak security mechanisms in the past, Snapchat has been gradually introducing solutions aimed at reducing anxiety and risk for users. Home Safe is another example of a tool that allows users to feel more in control when interacting with the digital environment.
