According to Spotify, lyrics translation is rolling out globally for Free and Premium users. If a track has a translation, a translation button appears in the lyrics block: clicking it shows the translated lines below the original. The service selects the language based on the device’s language, but you can quickly return to the original text.
The second update focuses on offline listening. When a user downloads tracks for offline use, lyrics will automatically be saved with them. This rollout is said to be gradual and applies to Premium subscribers.
The third change is in the Now Playing window on iOS/Android and tablets. Spotify is testing and rolling out a «lyric preview»: during playback, several lines are displayed immediately below the album cover or Canvas clip. The company notes that in early tests, the new placement helped people interact with the lyrics more often and return to found songs. If necessary, this mode can be turned off in the menu (Lyrics Off).
Spotify has been developing lyrics display for several years: after experiments in different countries, the service launched real-time synchronized lyrics in 2021, and previously collaborated with Genius in the Behind the Lyrics format (with excerpts of lyrics and background explanations about the tracks).
