Safe Superintelligence (SSI) is an AI startup founded by Israeli-Canadian computer scientist and OpenAI co-founder Ilya Sutzkever, 37, in June 2024. SSI is working to create a superintelligence that is smarter than humans, but safe.
SSI was co-founded by Daniel Gross, who previously led artificial intelligence initiatives at Apple (AAPL.O), and Daniel Levy, a former researcher at OpenAI. Sutzkever is the chief scientific officer, Levy is the chief research officer, and Gross is responsible for computing power and fundraising.
The startup received $1 billion in funding, as it became known in early September 2024, to develop safe artificial intelligence systems that significantly exceed human capabilities. Among the investors are leading venture capital companies, including: Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital, DST Global, SV Angel, NFDG.
In September 2024, the company employed 10 employees.
