Valve has released an update to the Steam platform that makes it much easier to buy gifts for friends. The main innovation is the ability to gift games to users in regions with higher prices.
This is stated in the Steam blog.
Previously, to send a game to a user in a country with higher prices, you had to purchase digital gift cards and calculate the total amount yourself. Now, the process is automated: when you place an order, Steam automatically calculates the price of the title based on the recipient’s region. To use this feature, users must be on your friends list.
In addition, the developers have expanded the ability to purchase gifts without registering an account. If previously the guest mode was only available for purchasing gift cards and equipment, now anyone can purchase any game as a gift directly from the list of the desired user or send it to an email. In the email, the recipient will find a link to log in to their profile and confirm the gift.
In parallel, the platform has received a major update to the wishlist. Players will be able to create their own categories of games, set up notifications about the release of demos or discounts for each category separately, as well as share links to specific filtered collections. Even users without their own Steam profile will be able to view such links and purchase games from them.
Valve has previously released an updated installation image of the SteamOS 3.8 operating system. Now users can independently install the Linux-based gaming platform on their computers to assemble a home analogue of the Steam Machine console. The main condition for installation is the presence of a video card from AMD, since there is no support for GPUs from Nvidia yet.
