"Be vigilant. Zero trust is the best strategy in cybersecurity." Military analyst Serhiy Flesh on the basic rules of cyber hygiene

The General Staff has released a series of visuals that clearly and humorously highlight the basic principles of cybersecurity that should be followed for the safety of both civilians and military personnel. Serhiy «Flash» (Serhiy Bezkrestnov), a radio technology specialist, military officer, and engineer, provided his perspective on the topic of cybersecurity and supplemented the information from the General Staff with his own advice.

«In the war on the topic of cybersecurity, everything is exactly the same, only instead of
«Scammers are enemies, and the price of a mistake is not a stolen credit card, but the possible death of more than one person,» emphasizes Serhiy Flesh in a post on the Telegram channel.

Basic cybersecurity requirements for military and civilian:

  1. Don’t use computers without antivirus software. And not only
Not official, but personal, who are somewhere near you on duty.
  2. Do not use completely primitive passwords.
  3. Do not reveal unnecessary information during a video conference (background, captions). This also applies to photos.
  4. Information with «secret labels» should be processed only on designated
for this purpose, computers with special protection measures.
  5. Beware of TikTok and social networks. Especially apps. Without exaggeration, thousands of specialists and special bots of the enemy monitor all networks and wait for you to make a mistake by giving out important information.
  6. Do not connect unverified flash drives and storage devices to office computers.
  7. Don’t open letters from strangers. Don’t open unknown
    links and documents.
  8. And of course, use only proven software. Free KMS-Auto activator for a pirated copy of WINDOWS or carefully placed on a torrent free, also Ukrainianized «Windows» — 100% leaky. Free cheese…

Cyber hygiene tips from an expert:

  • If there is no admin monitoring the Signal or WhatsAPP group
literally every day for each member of the group, consider that the group has
enemy. Phones are «captured», and the enemy months later
    Sometimes he reads unit chats.
  • Enemy agents have excellent command of the Ukrainian language, know the names
units and commanders' names. If they are interested in you, they will collect all available information about you and use it to convince you to open the sent «application for your award» or «vote for your beloved Aunt Sarah’s nephew at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest.» Don’t get caught mistaking the enemy for your own.
  • You can visually verify the interlocutor by asking him/her
turn on the video right now. Spies are never ready for this and
    always «looping».
  • Any military document is forged in Photoshop.
  • Your new Android phone may already be loaded with software from China
    of unknown origin.

«Moral: be vigilant. Zero trust is the best strategy in cybersecurity,» emphasizes Serhiy Flesh.
