This was announced by Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó on the social network X.
«This was an attack on Hungary’s sovereignty that jeopardized our energy security and almost forced us to use strategic reserves,» he wrote.
Hungarian Prime Minister Balazs Orban’s political director has confirmed that the Ukrainian military commander who Hungary has banned from entering the country for attacks on the Druzhba oil pipeline is ethnic Hungarian Robert Brovdi, known by the call sign «Magyar.» He is one of the most prominent Ukrainian military commanders, whose brigade specializes in the massive use of drones on the front.
Ukraine reacted sharply to Budapest’s move. Foreign Minister Andriy Szybiga responded by saying: «How shameless to publish this after a brutal attack by the terrorist state of Russia. Peter, if the Russian pipeline is more important to you than the Ukrainian children that Russia killed this morning, then this is moral decay. Hungary is on the wrong side of history.» He added that Kyiv «will take mirror actions.»
Under Schengen rules, a decision by one member state applies to all members of the association. However, states can refuse to implement it if they consider it necessary to issue their own national visa.
This is not the first case of diplomatic tension between Ukraine and Hungary related to the war. Earlier, Prime Minister Viktor Orban criticized European sanctions against Russia and called for negotiations with Moscow, which regularly provokes indignation in Kyiv. At the same time, Robert Brovdy, better known by the call sign «Magyar», became a symbol of new approaches in drone warfare, actively developing unmanned aviation units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
