Ukrainian company ATMARAKSI introduced a VR simulator of a duel between an FPV drone and a shooter for combat training

A professional VR simulator «Duel VR: FPV vs GUN» has appeared in Ukraine, in which a drone operator and a gunner practice countering each other in real time. The development was created for training units in stressful conditions close to combat.
According to DOU, the simulator was developed by the Ukrainian engineering company ATMARAKSI. Unlike most FPV simulators, Duel does not break the scenario tens of meters before the target: the operator retains control of the drone until the moment of contact, and the gunner trains in the same virtual environment to detect the threat, aim, and shoot down.
The team emphasizes the educational, not the «gaming» nature of the product: the core of the simulation models the physics of combat and the logic of the actions of both sides, and the instructor sets the methodology, difficulty levels, and evaluation criteria. The platform works on a modular principle: new locations, types of weapons, drone profiles, and training protocols are added for specific tasks. At the request of the police training center, a «Roadblock in the Frontline Zone» scenario has already been created to practice countering FPV in close group interaction.
The most important thing in the program remains the development of decision-making skills under time pressure and obstacles: the interfaces, timings and battlefield landscape are configured to force both participants to react quickly, seek cover, maneuver and coordinate with their partners. A session log and performance analytics are provided for instructors, allowing them to adjust the training program.
ATMARAKSI has been working on VR solutions for the defense, education and industrial sectors since 2013, including machine gun firing simulators, an FPV countermeasure simulator and an RPG-7 complex. According to ATMARAKSI, their systems are already used by more than 100 Ukrainian units. The product architecture is designed for export: flexible localization and compatibility with international requirements are supported, in particular with training protocols that meet NATO standards.
In parallel, the team is developing civilian areas: VR rehabilitation of military and civilian personnel with PTSD and phantom pain, as well as training modules for the school course «Defense of Ukraine». This approach allows for scaling the technology and quickly transferring the results from military scenarios to security and educational ones.
Previously, dev.ua wrote about how the «Vartovy» training complex was created to train UAV interceptor crews. It allows you to practice the skills of detecting, escorting, and intercepting enemy drones in the most realistic conditions.
