According to Yaroslav Azhnyuk’s Facebook post, Kurbas-640 Beta was made so that the camera could be configured not only by manufacturers, but also by teams operating the drones.
«From now on, not only we, as a camera manufacturer, but also any drone manufacturer or unit that operates them, will be able to customize the camera to their needs,» Azhnyuk wrote.
He also added that this can be done even during a mission by changing the parameters programmatically.
The company explains that Beta is based on the Kurbas-640 Alpha series, which has been used on a large number of front-line FPVs, as well as on STING interceptors. In particular, Alpha works on the Wild Hornets' STING interceptors, which are used against the Shahed.
Among the declared capabilities of the Kurbas-640 Beta are ready-made modes for various scenarios (air targets, ground targets, navigation, difficult weather), switching modes via the flight controller or on-board computer, as well as creating your own image profiles. Settings include brightness, contrast, noise reduction, detail, gamma, digital zoom, and sensor recalibration algorithms. Wi-Fi access to the settings panel has been provided for integration, and surge protection and shielded cables for stability. Interchangeable lenses with a field of view from 8° to 103° are also declared.
Odd Systems positions the Kurbas line as «eyes for the battlefield» and says the new version is geared towards real-world combat conditions, including fog, high humidity, sudden changes in lighting, and low-contrast targets. The company also notes that the cameras have received rave reviews from military and drone manufacturers for the quality and usefulness of the custom firmware.
