According to The Verge, the partnership was announced on January 6. Music Flamingo was developed by NVIDIA and researchers at the University of Maryland and was released in November 2025. The model is focused on a «human-like» understanding of music: it analyzes track structure, harmony, emotional arcs, and chord progressions and can process recordings up to 15 minutes long.
The parties have not yet explained in which products the model will appear first. The statement says that artists will be able to analyze their own releases more deeply, describe and present them more accurately, and listeners will get new ways to discover the catalog, including by emotion or cultural context.
Separately, UMG and NVIDIA announced an «artist incubator» where they plan to jointly design and test AI tools. UMG calls it a counterbalance to formulaic outcomes like «AI slop» and promises that musicians will remain at the center of the process. UMG CEO Lucian Grange talks about using AI «in the best interests of artists and fans,» while NVIDIA emphasizes safeguards to ensure attribution and respect for copyright.
The music industry is simultaneously suing AI developers and launching partnerships. UMG sued Anthropic in 2023 over the use of song lyrics, and in the fall of 2025 announced a collaboration with music generator Udio. The new project with NVIDIA is positioned as «responsible AI.»
