The company calls the update to version 1.0 the biggest since the service launched: users have been given the opportunity to create videos up to 10 seconds long in 720p format, and have also improved audio quality and character expression.
xAI claims that in the last 30 days alone, users have generated about 1.245 billion videos. Despite the limited length of a single clip, users are already combining multiple scenes into longer videos, trying to maintain the visual integrity of locations and characters. Examples include short narrative stories, animated fragments, and scenes with a combination of stylized and photorealistic elements.
The company also showed examples of videos with voiced characters, but even in the demonstrations, it is noticeable that lip-syncing with speech remains a difficult task for generative models. This confirms that the direction of video with voice and facial expressions is still in the stage of active refinement.
In addition to updating the generator itself, xAI has opened access to the Grok Imagine API for developers, which allows for the integration of image and video generation into third-party services. The company also announced a merger with SpaceX, explaining this by the desire to build a vertically integrated infrastructure for the development of artificial intelligence: from computing power to final products.
Grok Imagine is part of the xAI product line, an artificial intelligence company founded by Elon Musk in 2023. The tool is being developed as a separate generative module for creating images and videos, which integrates with other services in the xAI ecosystem and the X social platform. The update to version 1.0 comes against the backdrop of the company’s active expansion of its infrastructure and attempts to scale its own multimodal models.
