Product UI/UX Designer Pavlo Malanchuk spoke about the «interesting» working conditions that sometimes occur when looking for a job. «As for me, my personal time is personal because I do what I want. Did I miss something in the labor market and is this the norm now?» writes Pavlo Malanchuk. The people of Aitivka were quick to respond.

No one has ever set such conditions for me. But I myself have come to such a rule that I do not take freelance work when I work full-time. Because personally it exhausts me and I get anxious that I will not be able to manage everything properly in terms of time/quality. I think that if a person can perform their tasks qualitatively, and then also do freelance work, then why not, let them do it. But if the salary is good, then the person will think carefully about why they need that extra workload.

If you take such a demand «at face value», then only indignation arises. But if you analyze it from the point of view of benefit, then it is really worth attention.

The employer wants to see a fully charged tool at work, with productivity and efficiency. Statistics also say that all the troubles we have with people are precisely due to fatigue -> stress -> and bad statistics.

If the salary were adequate, there would be no point in taking that part-time job, and they would also pay the customer extra.

If the placement is for an individual entrepreneur, then this is a clear example of the desire to save on taxes and everything else that is included in the employment contract.

You wouldn’t, for example, tell a builder, «If you’re building a fence for me, you can’t do it with other clients!»

Well, whether it’s normal or not is up to each person to decide. Again, there are conditions from one side and the other. If everyone is happy with everything, then everyone is happy with everything…

The motives can be different, from keeping people from burning out and «thinking» only about our tasks, to making people dependent on one source of income and not giving such an important resource to competitors (for example, like Google or other mastodons do), or maybe all of them together?

But regardless of the root causes, the compensation for the person should be above the market. How to keep such a specialist with such a condition.

I think such requirements began during the Covid era, when people started taking on 2-3 projects in parallel. Companies are starting to «secure themselves» in this way. This requirement seems «adequate» in the current realities from the employer’s point of view.

The issues of different views on the part of the employee and the employer are not new and obvious. And in this process everyone (or not everyone) tries to meet each other, but the middle ground can not always be reached for various reasons. In an ideal world, of course, this requirement does not look normal.

But in an ideal world, the candidate is also always focused, motivated, happy, etc.
