Ukrainian developer launches obleek app for automatic expense tracking from bank notifications
Ukrainian IT professional Vladislav Brazhnik developed the obleek expense tracker, which automatically reads push notifications from banking applications and creates transactions without direct access to bank accounts or using the Open Banking API.
Ukrainian IT professional Vladislav Brazhnik developed the obleek expense tracker, which automatically reads push notifications from banking applications and creates transactions without direct access to bank accounts or using the Open Banking API.
The developer talked about his project in a post on Reddit.
obleek is based on the analysis of notifications received from banking applications. The application recognizes the amount, currency, merchant name, and the last four digits of the card. This is done by combining the application identifier and regular expressions (RegEx) created on the basis of a collected dataset of notifications from Ukrainian and foreign banks.
According to the author, the service recognizes notifications from monobank, PrivatBank, FUIB, Sense Bank, A-Bank and other financial institutions, as well as Google Wallet (Google Pay). If the format of a specific bank is not in the database, the application analyzes the text directly on the device using Google ML Kit.
The developer emphasizes data security: obleek works without entering bank logins or linking cards, and the text of notifications is not sent anywhere and is processed exclusively locally on the smartphone.
"If you have only one bank, then the monobank statistics are really no worse. But if you have several banks and you would like to see a holistic picture of expenses and income, then this is where an expense tracker may be needed," explained Vladyslav Brazhnik.
Additional features of the application include support for over 160 fiat currencies and four cryptocurrencies (BTC, ETH, USDT, USDC) with automatic conversion at the current exchange rate, debt accounting, scheduled and regular payments, analytics by category, PIN or fingerprint protection, and data export to JSON.
The application is already available on Google Play for Android users.
Aitivets created an app that notifies about air raid alerts in real time using a widget. Over the past four years, the app has been used by over a hundred thousand users.
