Roman Zinchenko, a volunteer and founder of the Greencubator NGO, which promotes the development of the «green» economy in Ukraine and Eastern Europe, spoke about a new fraudulent scheme in which scammers act on behalf of monobank.
According to Roman, they tried to rob him.
«I was not robbed. However, they tried. Tonight they tried to gain access to my volunteer bank, where the collection for air defense, air defense, and infantry is taking place,» he said.
Initially, according to the man, the scammers tried to reach him via email disguised as moobank financial monitoring.
«At 1:33 a.m. Can you imagine a real monobank writing at night from a Gmail address? But for a tired person at night, the address [email protected] may seem legitimate,» Zinchenko said.
He noted that when preparing the letter, the scammers read his page or targeted volunteers. «However, a real bank knows that I have the official status of a volunteer and would not ask such questions,» he states.
After that, according to Roman, at 7:36 a.m., the attacker called him via Telegram from an account on which the fraudster had «imprinted» the mono logo.
«He was probably upset that I didn’t run to talk to his bots. I hadn’t fully woken up yet at that point, so I didn’t send it right away, but wrote to mono support. Tatyana from the mono customer care team responded instantly, confirming that this was definitely not their request,» the volunteer says.
At 1:20 p.m., Roman says, after doing some household chores, he decided to call back the account from which the scammers were calling, «to explain that the initiator was a scammer.»
«Since my daughter was at home at that time, I could not use the entire vocabulary of explanatory and expressive language. To my restrained remark about the unethical nature of such behavior, the person on the other end of the call replied that 'I don’t care, I’m in Russia',» Zinchenko said.
He added that none of the funds entrusted to him were affected, and the collection continues.
«If among my friends, acquaintances, acquaintances of acquaintances there are professionals who want to make life a little more difficult for such perpetrators, then there is a need to shower the following accounts with well-wishes and regular prison sex:
«Of course, it would be logical to contact the Cyber Police. However, past experience in writing a statement about attempted fraud has shown that this structure is just as committed to preventing cybercrime as their application form is committed to caring for citizens. Well, in the meantime, the collection continues, the details are in my previous posts. Have a nice Sunday everyone! (except pyzzni),» Zinchenko wrote.
