There have been layoffs in Google Cloud over the past two weeks.
This is reported by Business Insider, citing its own sources.
According to insiders, one of the teams that was cut yesterday was the Google Threat Intelligence Group. This is one of the company's leading security divisions that regularly publishes research on hackers. Some employees have already started writing about the layoffs on LinkedIn.
The publication's interlocutors added that the cuts were not limited to this unit and affected other teams at Mandiant (a cybersecurity company that Google acquired in 2022), as well as Google Cloud itself.
It is not yet known exactly how many people were laid off or why the layoffs are happening now. According to sources, in one case, Google justified the move by saying it needed to reinvest in growth areas, including artificial intelligence.
"We regularly evaluate our internal structures to ensure we are best positioned to meet the evolving needs of our customers and the industry at large," a Google spokesperson told Business Insider.
