GSC Game World, the studio known as the developer of STALKER, has announced the launch of the social initiative «Chernobyl Stories» to mark the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster. The project is being created as a digital platform where people can collect and preserve personal testimonies about the 1986 tragedy.
According to a press release from GSC Game World, the initiative is being implemented in partnership with the National Chernobyl Museum and the State Agency of Ukraine for the Management of the Exclusion Zone. The goal of the project, as the studio explains, is to create a space of «living memory» that gives voice to those whose stories have long been ignored and helps to record experiences passed down between generations.
The press release emphasizes that the tragedy changed the lives of millions and is still present in family memories, liquidators' awards, and abandoned locations of Pripyat. The platform is aimed at a wide range of participants: eyewitnesses, liquidators, volunteers, evacuated families, and descendants of people who went through the disaster.
You can join the initiative now. By the end of March 2026, anyone can publish their own story and add photos or other materials they consider important on a special project page. In April 2026, on the anniversary of the accident, the organizers plan to organize the collected testimonies and present them to a wider audience.
The Chernobyl Stories project is positioned as an online memorial platform that collects testimonies from different groups of people — from direct eyewitnesses to families who preserve the memory of the evacuation and liquidation of the consequences. It is intended to become a public digital archive of personal stories on the eve of the 40th anniversary of the tragedy.
