In total, the company plans to eliminate about 30,000 corporate positions , with the layoffs expected to affect employees in the cloud division, retail, Prime Video service and human resources departments, Reuters writes .
Amazon cut 14,000 office jobs in late October. CEO Andy Jassy said the move was necessary to eliminate excessive bureaucracy by streamlining operational levels and reducing the number of management positions.
It is noted that the 30,000 jobs represent only a small fraction of Amazon's total workforce of approximately 1.58 million people. However, this is almost 10% of the company's total corporate staff. The bulk of Amazon's employees are employed in fulfillment centers and warehouses.
