As reported by 9to5Mac, the company has published a new help page detailing the impact of updates on iPhone battery and performance. In particular, immediately after installing a major update like iOS 26.0, users may notice rapid battery drain and an increase in device temperature.
Apple explains this by saying that in the first few days after the update, the smartphone runs background processes: indexing files for search, downloading new resources, updating applications, and configuring the system. After these procedures are completed, the performance should stabilize.
However, the company admits that some new features may affect battery life and performance in the long term, as they require more resources from the processor. It all depends on the usage style: if the owner actively uses «heavy» features, such as the Always-On Display or new visual interface elements, the battery will drain faster.
Apple emphasizes that it will optimize the innovations in subsequent minor releases (26.1, 26.1.1, etc.) over time to minimize their impact on the user experience. However, the company’s main message is that a temporary drop in battery life after installing an update is not a malfunction, but a natural stage of system tuning.
The situation with iOS 26 is not unique: similar complaints have appeared after previous major iOS updates. Users often reported increased power consumption in the first days, but in most cases it disappeared after background processes were completed. Experts note that Apple’s new communication is an attempt to explain in advance the nature of these changes and avoid a wave of criticism that would be caused by the possible impact of interface innovations on the battery.
