Until the functionality of Ukrzaliznytsia’s internal systems is restored, a downtime regime will be introduced for employees who do not have a full workload.
This is reported by Rail.insider, citing the words of the chairman of the board of UZ Oleksandr Pertsovsky. According to the publication, the information comes from the corporate channel of railway workers «UZ VEZE». The head of the company recalled that IT specialists have been restoring Ukrzaliznytsia’s systems for the fourth day after a large-scale attack.
«The ticket purchase application has already been launched. It is currently being gradually stabilized and its functionality is being restored. In parallel, teams are also working on restoring systems related to freight traffic, our internal operational, HR, financial and other systems. All personnel computer equipment is undergoing quarantine — a check for the presence of malicious software. While these processes are ongoing, administrative staff in many workplaces are unable to fully perform their tasks due to the lack of access to IT systems,» Oleksandr Pertsovskyi clarified.
He added that Ukrzaliznytsia cannot afford for «administrative staff, both at Giedroyc and in branches and regions, to simply come to work and «stare at a turned-off computer.»
«We approved the decision: until the functionality of internal systems is restored, a partially paid downtime regime will be introduced for employees who are not fully loaded. This will allow us to save resources, and employees to better organize their time. Changes in the organization of the workflow will continue until corporate IT systems and services are restored,» noted the Chairman of the Board of UZ.
As a reminder, on Sunday morning, March 23, Ukrzaliznytsia reported a failure in the company’s IT system. The company did not immediately indicate the reasons for the failure. In the morning, the chairman of the board of UZ admitted that an unprecedented cyberattack was carried out on the servers and IT resources of Ukrzaliznytsia — targeted, complex and multi-level. Online services are still not working.
Cyber experts also gave their first assessments of a large-scale hacker attack on the servers and IT infrastructure of Ukrzaliznytsia.
According to the company, a backup infrastructure has now been deployed in a secure environment, with all components prepared for immediate restart from backup copies of critical systems.
