Meta will add an AI assistant to Facebook Dating: the bot will help you find a partner and edit your profile

TechCrunch reports on the innovation. Along with the bot, the service is getting a Meet Cute feature — once a week, users will see a «surprise match» selected by an algorithm. Meta says that the number of matches among 18-29-year-olds has increased by 10%, and hundreds of thousands of young users create new profiles on Facebook Dating every month.

The AI ​​assistant has two basic scenarios:

• Finding the perfect parameters: the bot transforms vague wishes into specific filters, highlighting interests and «compatibility signals.»
• Profile editing: suggests which photos and answers work best, and how to formulate interests to increase the chance of a mutual like.

The idea is simple: to make dating more comfortable and reduce the time between the first swipe and a real conversation.

Market context is also very important here. Tinder has about 50 million daily active users, Hinge has 10 million, so Facebook Dating is still a smaller player. At the same time, AI has already become the industry standard. Last year, Match Group (Tinder, Hinge, OkCupid, etc.) entered into a partnership with OpenAI as part of a $20+ million investment in AI: Tinder added an AI photo selector (scans the gallery and recommends the best shots), Hinge — an amplifier of responses to profile prompts. Bumble is also experimenting with AI; founder Whitney Wolf Gerd even suggested a future with «AI concierges» who would «go on dates» on behalf of users to test compatibility.

Facebook Dating started as an option within the main app and was long overshadowed by the giants with «swiping» mechanics. The new AI assistant and Meet Cute are Meta’s attempt to add personalization and move away from endless swiping. If models can better «reduce» profiles and reduce the time to the first dialogue, the service has a chance to increase its share among young people — despite the dominance of Tinder/Hinge and competition from experimental «AI dating» apps.
