The Kuboid Mathematics Museum has opened in Ukraine. What interactive exhibits can you see there?
The interactive space «Cuboid», opened in Ukraine, will help everyone who wants to learn mathematics with the help of practical tools and interactive simulators. There are only four such museums in Europe and five in the world.
The interactive space «Cuboid», opened in Ukraine, will help everyone who wants to learn mathematics with the help of practical tools and interactive simulators. There are only four such museums in Europe and five in the world.
In addition to the President of the Small Academy of Sciences Stanislav Dovhy and the Acting Director of the Scientific Center «MANU» Olena Kvachevska, the grand opening of the museum was attended by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy together with First Lady Olena Zelenska, as well as the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Oksen Lisovyi.
What to see at the museum
The museum is located on two floors and consists of 8 zones.
In «Kuboid» you can find:
Interactive exhibits for exploring mathematical laws.
Educational labs where you can learn abstract concepts through play.
Rooms for classes, educational programs, science shows, and motivational meetings.
The space is divided into zones, each of which resembles an educational laboratory, in particular, on the 1st floor:
«Mathematics and Everyday Life» (Producer: Evergreen Exhibitions (United States of America)) is designed for students in grades 3–8 and combines mathematics with video games, sports, design, music, robotics, and more.
«Tesseract» (Manufacturer: «Strong Interactions» (Poland)) about the geometric order and harmony of Voronoi diagrams.
«Pendulums and Measurements» (Manufacturer: «Strong Interactions» (Poland)) — here you can experiment with different types of pendulum motion, trace the dependence of oscillations on time, length, height, amplitude, and other parameters.
On the 2nd floor of the museum are located:
«Geometry and Mechanisms» (Manufacturer: Science Center «AHHAA» (Estonia) (member of the European Network of Science Centers and Museums «Ecsite»)) contains transmission mechanisms, interact with different shapes of gears and lenses, try to pick combinations of numbers to open a safe, explore the hyperboloid and hyperbola.
«Forms and Formulas» ( Producer: Mathematikum Science Center (Germany)), where visitors can solve mathematical problems, each of which has a formula behind it, and see various examples of proving famous theorems: from classical to the most unusual.
«Space for Creativity» (Producer: «Strong Interactions» (Poland)) will provide an opportunity to explore creative solutions, in particular, to design and test prototypes of aircraft and missiles.
«Space of Cleverness» (Manufacturer: «Strong Interactions» (Poland)) is a space of mathematical puzzles, riddles, and calculations.
About the exhibits
Each exhibit is designed to help understand certain mathematical principles, including:
«Penalty kick save» will help you analyze angles and trajectories.
«Skyscraper» helps you understand engineering principles through building simulations.
«Storm Warning» allows you to analyze weather data, record your own weather forecast and save it for yourself.
«Cybersecurity» allows you to enter an online computer game where you will have to defend yourself against attackers such as computer bugs and viruses, use passwords, multi-factor authentication, and simple code sequences.
A «Voronoi diagram» is a way of dividing space into zones around certain points.
Everything in the museum is set up in such a way that by performing specific actions and testing exhibits, you can see the result and draw conclusions about the principles of work.
Who might be interested in the museum?
The new interactive museum of mathematics can be visited by:
children and adults who are interested in mathematics;
schoolchildren, teachers, students;
everyone who wants to develop scientific and critical thinking.
Where to find the museum
«Cuboid» was opened in Kyiv at VDNH. Tickets to the museum will be available on the website from March 18, as well as on Instagram and Facebook.
It is planned that from May 1, the museum of mathematics will open its doors to all comers.
