In his Telegram post , Sergey "Flash" Beskrestnov, the Defense Minister's advisor on technological areas, writes that the Russians are experimenting with three communication options instead of Starlink:
• expansion of Wi-Fi bridges;
• use of LTE in various implementation options;
• attempts to restore satellite Internet via the Yamal and Express satellites.
Flash further clarifies that the most difficult for them remains communication in situations where rapid deployment and constant mobility are required. "The most problematic segment for them is ground zero positions and mobile UAV crews," he notes, adding that there is simply no working solution for these segments.
At the end of the post, he also hints at the practical consequence of such attempts: "And our strike drone pilots will take care of the options for replacing Starlink."
Attempts to replace satellite communications at the front usually come down to trade-offs between range, EW resistance, speed of deployment, and risk of detection. Therefore, even the availability of several technical options does not guarantee that they will work stably in different conditions.
