According to UNIAN, Yurchyshyn directly links this discussion to the issue of security: he says that Telegram has become a mass communication channel, but at the same time remains a risky environment that can be used for recruitment and coordination of crimes. In his opinion, the state should talk not only about restrictions, but also about a real replacement of the service, so as not to leave a vacuum for users and businesses.
Yurchyshyn emphasizes that this is not just a ban for its own sake. In his logic, the key task is to reduce the Ukrainian audience’s dependence on the platform, which is considered risky from a security perspective in wartime. At the same time, he admits that some users will switch to VPNs if restrictions are imposed, but this does not negate the need to reduce Telegram’s overall reach in Ukraine.
The MP also drew attention to the practical side of the issue: the new service must not only be technically possible, but also one that will be trusted. That is why, in his opinion, both transparent rules and consistent behavior of state institutions, which now often talk about the risks of Telegram, but continue to use it as the main channel of communication, will be important.
Also, previously, Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Iryna Vereshchuk called for regulating the work of Telegram, emphasizing that if it is necessary to restrict such platforms for the security of the country, this should be done.
