As TechCrunch reports, the new feature has been launched as part of the Community Notes program. Now, a limited number of participants in this initiative will see requests to rate posts that have attracted the attention of people from different perspectives. The definition of such posts is based on early user actions — in particular, likes that demonstrate ideological diversity.
Participants in the experiment will be able to choose reasons why a particular post caught their attention. Options include, for example, «I learned something new» or «I disagree, but it’s interesting.» X emphasizes that these ratings will help create an open algorithm that can automatically detect content that resonates with audiences on both sides of social debates.
«People often think the world is divided, but Community Notes proves that shared perspectives are possible even on complex topics. The new feature is designed to identify ideas that unite and motivate people to share them,» the company said in an official statement.
Community Notes, launched in 2022 after Elon Musk bought Twitter, allows the community to flag posts as potentially manipulative or disinformation. Since then, other platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and Threads, have adopted a similar model.
After significant changes to X’s content moderation policy (), the platform has focused on developing decentralized approaches to fact-checking and user interaction. The experiment with identifying «unifying» posts could be one step towards reducing toxicity on social media and increasing the volume of constructive discussions.
