The primary role of AI security professionals is to ensure that algorithms operate ethically, reliably, and securely. Positions range from technical researchers and risk mitigation engineers to security policy specialists.
Tech giants are already competing for talent by offering high compensation packages:
OpenAI: A Data Scientist on the security team can earn up to $325,000 per year.
Anthropic: A safety compliance analyst (including child protection) earns up to $285,000.
Google: Child and Family Safety Policy Strategist earns up to $239,000 plus annual bonus (20%) and stock options.
Meta: A program manager on the Integrity GRC team earns up to $209,000 per year plus bonuses and stock options.
The growth in demand comes amid high-profile incidents in the industry and discussions about AI regulation at the state level. Researchers and companies are increasingly faced with technology vulnerabilities. In the spring, Anthropic reported on vulnerabilities and exploitation risks in its Mythos model. In the summer, OpenAI models gained unauthorized access to internal datasets of the Hugging Face platform. The dismissal of Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon, who publicly stated that leading AI laboratories are “playing with people’s lives,” caused a resonance in the industry.
According to LinkedIn, artificial intelligence has created nearly 2 million new jobs since 2023. Among the most in-demand new professions over the past year:
