The idea came while taking a master class with Vapi. The IT guy spent only 78 UAH on the development and about 25 hours of his own time in total.
AI Engineer and Frontend Developer from Kyiv Serhiy Sidletsky created a pet project PYTAI in a week and a half, which will help improve English and conduct a virtual interview with AI on any topic. The idea came while taking a master class with Vapi. The IT guy spent only 78 UAH on the development and about 25 hours of his own time in total.
The idea to create an AI platform for conducting virtual interviews came to me more than two weeks ago, when Serhiy watched a JavaScript Mastery masterclass on working with Vapi. With the new knowledge, he wanted to make a full-fledged pet project, so that the functionality with a pleasant UX/UI and a working model could be improved. The masterclass was on Friday, and Serhiy already started development on the weekend.
I rejected the naming options that immediately came to mind, such as Voicely, VoiceAiview, because I didn’t want to echo existing sites. After some more thought, I came up with an original name that I really like and that fully corresponds to and embodies the product — «Ask,» or PYTAI. A kind of play on words with the ending AI.
Serhiy Sidletsky works as an AI Engineer at ROCKETS. Growth R&D and has over three years of experience in Frontend development. So it took him about a week and a half to develop the product: first it was on weekends, then a few hours every evening after work. In total, it took about 25 hours of work.
PYTAI is a platform for creating interviews with questions based on given criteria, where a virtual assistant will conduct an interview with you, focusing on these questions.
An AI interviewer named Anna will ask you questions, and at the end you will receive full feedback with a score.
Serhiy explains about the choice of name: «Anna is my niece’s name. Plus, this name is easier to pronounce naturally for the English-speaking model, which is responsible for word generation.»
To use PYTAI, you need to register on the site or log in via your Google account.
To create your own interview based on your criteria, you need to select Create an Interview:
You can also use any interview that other users have created. To do this, select Start Interview.
The virtual interview has a time limit, so don’t delay your answers.
To create PYTAI, Serhiy used the following stack: Next.js, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, Radix UI, Firebase, Google Gemini AI, Vapi.

PYTAI launched last Thursday, and within a day, about 40 people registered on the site, 23 different interviews were created, and 12 pieces of feedback were received.
Currently, only English is available. But there is an added bonus: users can also improve their English.
«The English-language model that generates the voice looks more alive. The Ukrainian version, which was tested, unfortunately, in the free version feels extremely „robotic“, especially when the text contains technical terminology, — says Serhiy. — But the plans are still to do a Ukrainian localization later, because PYTAI still sounds like PYTAY.»

Future plans include multilingual support, ATS integration, advanced analytics, and customizable interview templates for different industries.
«For now, for me, this is more of an educational pet project that helps me develop as a developer, improving my skills in interacting with the AI SDK and integrating AI models. But time will tell, maybe later „Ask“ will transform into something more,» adds Serhiy.
