During the massive shelling of Kyiv on June 17, Russia used cluster munitions. Their remains, resembling gray bullets, were found in residential areas of the capital.
Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko said that after the night airstrike, rescuers and police found cluster munitions in the Nyvka area. He posted the corresponding video on his Telegram channel. According to him, one of the shells hit a residential building, fortunately, there were no casualties.
"The State Emergency Service and the police collected these bullets. These are elements of cluster munitions. Their task is to kill as many people as possible. This is genocide," the mayor noted.
The Kyiv City Military Administration has warned citizens about the danger of debris and warheads remaining after shelling. The KMVA emphasized: the remains of missiles, drones, as well as cluster elements can detonate even with a delay, so touching them is strictly prohibited. If suspicious objects are found, you should urgently call 101 or 102, mark the location and move to a safe distance.
The use of cluster munitions by Russia during the shelling of Kyiv on June 17 is confirmed by published materials and on-site evidence. These are weapons prohibited by international conventions and are particularly dangerous in densely populated areas.
How dangerous are cluster munitions?
Cluster munitions break up into dozens of small explosive elements that may not detonate immediately. Their use in residential areas poses a threat to the civilian population even after the shelling has ended. Russia has previously been reported to have used similar elements in drones that disintegrated in the air, leaving dangerous fragments. The use of such weapons in urban environments is a direct violation of international humanitarian law.
We previously wrote how the Ukrainian army in mid-May conducted a successful combat test of a new ballistic missile, which destroyed a Russian command post at a distance of approximately 300 km.
