Salesforce plans to significantly update Slack, adding dozens of artificial intelligence features and turning Slackbot into a full-fledged work assistant.
As TechCrunch reports, the company has introduced over 30 new features, most of which are built around automating routine work. A key element of the update will be Slackbot, which will receive new functionality and will be able to perform more complex tasks without user intervention.
These are so-called AI skills — pre-configured scenarios that allow the bot to independently collect information, analyze it, and perform typical tasks. For example, Slackbot will be able to collect data from various channels and connected services, prepare a short report, and suggest further actions.
A separate feature block concerns working with meetings. Slack is getting tools to automatically transcribe conversations, create summaries, and highlight key decisions. This will allow users to navigate discussions faster without having to review full recordings.
The update also includes integration with other Salesforce products and third-party services, allowing Slackbot to pull data from multiple sources and use it to perform tasks, including scheduling meetings or preparing work materials.
The company is actually changing the role of Slack: instead of a regular messenger, it is gradually becoming a tool that not only transmits messages, but also does some of the work for the user. This is in line with the general trend of integrating AI into daily workflows.
Slack was acquired by Salesforce in 2021 for $27.7 billion and has been gradually integrated into the company’s ecosystem since then. The new update is part of Salesforce’s broader strategy to introduce AI into its products, including through its Agentforce platform, which focuses on business process automation.
Previously, dev.ua wrote about how Slack has launched a new version of Slackbot, which works as an AI agent inside the messenger. It should help employees find the information they need, prepare texts, and perform typical work actions without switching between applications.
