"To be invited for an interview, you need to have either a reservation or a deferral." Senior .NET Developer spoke about strange requirements for candidates. ІТ-workers share whether anyone has encountered something similar
According to Senior .NET Developer Vyacheslav Boretsky, when communicating with candidates about possible employment, recruiters began to make another strange requirement — the presence of a reservation or deferment from mobilization.
According to Senior .NET Developer Vyacheslav Boretsky, when communicating with candidates about possible employment, recruiters began to make another strange requirement — the presence of a reservation or deferment from mobilization.
At least, as the IT professional claims on his LinkedIn, he has encountered this from his own experience.
«We’ve arrived. A new requirement for candidates. In order to start talking to a candidate and be invited for an interview, you must have either a reservation or a deferral,» he noted in his post.
According to Vyacheslav Boretsky, formally he currently meets these strange requirements.
«By the way, I have a six-month deferment because I injured my leg, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. If you need someone who will definitely work for six months, contact me,» he joked.
Has anyone else encountered something similar?
In the comments to Vyacheslav Boretsky’s post, representatives of the IT community share whether anyone else has had similar cases.
«I also encountered a similar situation. The only thing is, I was still invited to an interview with a recruiter. And at first everything was fine, but at the end of the interview I received a remark because I live in Ukraine and do not have a reservation/deferral,» said Java Software Engineer Vitaliy Yakovlev.
DevOps engineer Oleksandr Lanovy noted that he had similar requirements from one employer in 2023. «It’s not surprising. Such companies continue to go to waste,» he says.
DevOps Oleg Kulakov believes that such requirements violate the rights of candidates and could theoretically even be challenged legally.
«If you have the time, inspiration, and evidence of such a requirement for male candidates, make an equivalent resume for a woman and apply for the same role from a different email. If there is no question about a postponement, you can go to a lawyer and go to court or file a complaint with the State Labor Protection Service,» he expressed his opinion.
In general, most IT professionals do not understand how a candidate can be required to make a reservation if it is the employer who should provide it. Although some people in the discussion also find arguments in favor of such an employer’s position.
«Well, it’s actually a double-edged sword here, because there are a lot of stories where people are stupidly „packed“, and the company wants to be safe — maybe if there is a contract for a couple of years, or maybe a relocation. This is also understandable,» says Customer Support Manager Oleksandra Levadska.
