This growth stands out against the backdrop of the general situation in the technology industry, writes Business Insider. For example, Meta has been implementing a cost-cutting program for several years in a row, and Microsoft recently offered voluntary redundancy with compensation to about 60,000 employees.
The chart below shows that after a massive reduction of approximately 12,000 workers (about 6% of the workforce) in early 2023 and several smaller waves of layoffs, the workforce reached a minimum in Q2 2024 (over 179,000). Since then, there has been a steady increase, which has accelerated significantly since the end of 2025.
Part of the increase in staff is due to mergers and acquisitions. In particular, on March 11, Google completed a deal to buy cybersecurity company Wiz , which added about 2,000 specialists to its staff.
In parallel with the growth in the number of employees, Google is demonstrating strong financial results: the company's quarterly revenue increased by 25% compared to the same period last year.
